  16. Research Assistant in Human Computer Interaction/ Software Engineering

  18. Applications are invited for  a Research Assistant post  on Esprit Project
  19. Multimedia Broker  which aims to research and develop the advanced user
  20. interfaces for broker systems serving the needs of authors and resource
  21. suppliers/owners of multimedia databases with assistance for information
  22. seeking and retrieval.

  24. The project covers  specification  of  information seeking and brokering
  25. services for multimedia authors and resources vendors, involving task
  26. analysis, interface design  and implementation of distributed (WWW)
  27. co-operative assistant  tools. Research issues concern development of
  28. dialogue management to support information seeking, provision of relevance
  29. feedback, and negotiation services. The dialogue manager will control a
  30. toolset for navigation via conceptual maps to explore resource databases,
  31. query formulation, browsing through information sets and presentation of
  32. retrieved results. The RA duties  involve specification of dialogue
  33. management functionality and development of a demonstrator system.
  34. Experience in design of user interface management systems, intelligent
  35. dialogue management,  and programming skills in C/C++  will be
  36. advantageous.  Usability evaluation is a key aspect of the project plan, so
  37. experience in this area is also desirable.

  39. Applicants should have a good honours degree in Computer Science,  Software
  40. Engineering or Cognitive Science. The appointment will be for 30 months on
  41. the Research Associate  IB/IA scale, salary  from ú14,317  to ú21,519 (p=
  42. lus ú3 2134 London weighting).
